I studied pianoforte as a child, and although grateful for some technique, theory & background structure in music, I did a Houdini after a few years as the style & content of the teaching was just way too rigid & not enjoyable for me. . .

I stopped for a while & then as a teenager I continued my self taught journey looking for a simpler more melodic & harmony driven expression.

After listening to The Doors, I got totally into Ray Manzarek´s independent hands technique. Bass lines with the left hand, chords and melodies with the right, preferably at the same time & in time. . . A style I continue to explore. . .

In my late teens I self taught bass and guitar, and did all the usual garage band things and learning years playing in bars and clubs. . . quickly developing a disillusion with music as a background or soundtrack to alcohol and drug based entertainment & socialising.

There had to be more !!!

After living in my early 20’s in & around the tropical savannah of Darwin Australia for 6 years, I started to get a taste for a freer way of thinking and living, a more zen, outdoor, beachy, closer to nature type of open lifestyle. . .

I also started my first extended piano compositions. . . Oh for joy. . . and then a bit later computers came along & offered me a blend of 2 awesome worlds, acoustic & electronic, a combination I still relish with delight. . .

This began with 4 electronic soundscape type albums of what I have come to call my ´Soundtracks for Imaginary Movies´ series, composed & completed in Melbourne Australia. . .

Then after living amongst the lush countryside inland from Byron Bay Australia, I was drawn to a more chill and downtempo style. I completed my 1st chillout album there. ( 3 more chill albums were completed during my 10 year stay in Bali )

14 yrs ago I relocated to Bali, a long time dream of mine to live there, completed the album I was working on & put together my most ambitious project to date, the ´´Magic lives Here´´ ´live´ music/film show, based around some of my longer, more orchestral style compositions.

Thus combining 2 of my passions, music & visuals, synchronised together to produce an expansive & entertaining experience. . .

Strong visuals supporting potent music that inspires and calls the spirit to journey. . . to explore. . . to expand. . .

Much gratitude to my wonderful partner in creation on this project, Szilvi, who is totally amazing with her skills and vision, for assisting with the footage, editing, adding vocals, flute, dance & a theatrical flair to the ´live´ performances, and assisting me to complete the project in Ubud Bali, over a period of a year. .

I still remember vividly the first time we sat & watched the complete show projected onto our newly bought screen in our spaceous open living room, with wide eyed amazement, . . . It had turned out so much more than I had originally imagined. . . Happy days indeed. . .

We performed the show in Bali a few times but it became evident that this part of our lives was coming to its end here. . .

So we travelled. . . We spent some time in Ibiza, the island that birthed chillout albums, Cafe del mar and the Balearic sound. Then a trip thru Sri Lanka & the wonders of North India, then back to Bali, and to pack up 10 years of our lives and move on . . . But where? Nice to get back to Ibiza, but not yet. . .

A short month camping trip thru the natural wonders and amazing wildlife of the Northern Territory in Australia had a huge impact on us, and after a few days we both just knew, this is where we wished to live for now. . .

So. . . recently I have settled into a wonderful new home, Darwin, (the second time here for me) and now the adventure continues in Australia´s wild and rugged top end.

Another glorious island continent from the shores of which to enjoy and be

inspired by those enchanting fiery sunsets and amazing lightning storms over a pristine gilded ocean.

Szilvi has gone back to live in Bali 3 yrs ago, I continue to live in Darwin and work on my projects as a solo artist. . . I can fee Bali is calling me again to return to live there and complete the show that I started in the hills of Ubud a decade ago, now it will be completed around the gilded beaches of the Amed coast, and end this cycle of creation and expansion for me. . .

I feel truly blessed. . .

Freedom, fortune and glory. . . Jaiv

A look-a-like of my original tiny blue 1960´s vintage kiddy grand, complete with 15 wooden white keys, painted on black keys, 3 legs & full hammer action - A Classic. . . I have since come to like those elusive black sharps & flats a lot.

Thankfully the next piano to arrive at our house was much bigger than me. . .

Thanks Ma n Pa for all the inspiring sonic toys. Much appreciated & thoroughly enjoyed. . .
